Newtown Pippin Apple
Yellow Newtown Pippin (also know as Albemarle Pippin) is an antique American apple variety with a history going back more than 250 years. It is not the prettiest apple you ever saw, but it is one of the best-flavored – aromatic with plenty of acid and pleasantly refreshing, and sometimes a pineapple-like note.
It is a medium to large apple, greenish-yellow in color with hints of pink at the stem end. The yellowish flesh is firm, crisp, and very aromatic. A good storage apple ripening in October and keeping into February or later.
It was a favorite of several founding fathers including George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson who grew them at Monticello. Read More
